Pre-Engineered | Cast In Situ | Fire-Resistant

stairs & balustrades

At Stair Formwork Ltd, we have redefined the standard for concrete stair construction. Our pre-manufactured stair formwork system is designed to replace traditional, time-consuming in-situ methods with a solution that is faster, safer, and more cost-effective.

Stair Formwork

Engineered for Efficiency and Safety

Unlike traditional methods that require temporary stairs and separate balustrade installation, our system arrives on site with the balustrade already attached.

This allows for progressive installation as the build develops—floors can be concreted while installation is ongoing.

This process eliminates the need for temporary access stairs, reduces on-site labour, and removes the requirement for “making good,” saving significant time and money.

Stair Formwork

Material and Manufacturing

Each unit is fabricated from Hot Dipped Galvanised Steel Sheet, utilized for risers, soffits, stringers, and balustrade brackets.

This ensures exceptional durability and corrosion resistance. The system is manufactured to integrate seamlessly with concrete reinforcement, typically accommodating H12@150 main bars and H10@200 distribution bars conforming to BS4449:2005.

Stair Formwork

Certified Strength and Fire Resistance

Safety and compliance are engineered into every component. Our stair formwork has undergone rigorous testing to validate its performance.

    Fire Resistance:

Our galvanized steel construction has passed a 2-hour radiant heat test, ensuring compliance with commercial fire regulations and Part K building standards.

With a melting point exceeding 1370°C, the structure maintains its integrity, withstanding significant temperatures without compromising metallurgical properties.

    Lifting and Load Capacity:

Every flight is fitted with four 10mm mild steel lifting hooks (Grade 250R), secured by 60mm fillet welds conforming to BS 8666:2005.

Tensile load testing has seen these hooks achieve average failure loads of up to 2,276kg, providing a significant safety margin during crane handling and installation.

    Technical Specifications

The system is supplied with all necessary fixing hardware, including M12 high-tensile zinc-plated bolts and dome nuts for handrail attachment. Components are finished with Bright Zinc Galvanised spray touch-ups on site where welding or cutting may have compromised the original coating.

For full installation guidance, rebar detailing charts, and propping calculations, our technical team provides comprehensive support to ensure your project runs smoothly from foundation to finish.
